Meet Lottie Deno, the legendary poker queen of the Wild West!
Lottie Deno is the owner the Silver Slipper Saloon in Interactive Entertainment’s world, played wonderfully by Kathy Drew. However, Lottie is also a real historical figure from history.
Born Carlotta J. Thompkins in Kentucky, Lottie traveled extensively before making her mark in Texas. Taught the art of gambling by her father, she embraced a life of adventure and high stakes after his death. Her journey from Detroit to the Mississippi River laid the foundation for her storied career.
Lottie’s fame skyrocketed in Texas, where she earned the nickname “Queen of the Pasteboards” and “Lottie Deno” a twist on the Spanish word for money, “dinero.”From San Antonio to Fort Griffin, she captivated the frontier with her poker prowess. Her love story with fellow gambler Frank Thurmond added a romantic twist to her tale. Eventually, Lottie and Frank settled in Deming, New Mexico, becoming respected community members. Lottie, the “Angel of San Antonio,” left an indelible mark on the folklore of the American Wild West.
