A member of Quantrill’s Raiders, Smooth masterminded the daring Pioneer Stage heist in 1864. With his silver tongue and icy stare, he and his partner stole $40,000 in silver, even handing the stage driver a cheeky receipt, claiming it was for the Confederate Army.
